Safeco Insurance
Safeco Auto Insurance are a national US insurance seller dealing in homeowners insurance, liability, title insurance and general insurance policies but specializing in auto insurance for private passenger vehicles.
A Brief History of Safeco Car Insurance
Safeco Auto Insurance began its life in 1923 under Hawthorne K. Dent. Back then the company was known as the General Insurance Company of America. The company focused on property and casualty insurance before venturing out into other fields of the industry in the mid 1950′s, becoming the Selective Auto and Fire Ensurance Company of America. Nobody spells insurance with an E anymore, bu this allowed the company to go under the acronym of S.A.F.E. Co.
The company started selling life insurance in 1957, changing the name again to Safeco Corporation, and finally capitalizing the full name as SAFECO Insurance. This is around the same time the company started branching out into mutual funds and commercial credit.
It was also around this time that Safeco built their 22 story Safeco Plaza at the corner of NE 45th Street and Brooklyn Avenue NE in 1973. Not counting any buildings found in the downtown area, this building remains the largest in Seattle after having replaced the Brooklyn Building in the same spot.
The company has continued to expand, eventually buying out American States Financial Corporation, Washington Mutual’s WM Life Insurance Company among others. The company has even branched out to London with recent acquisitions.
In 2008, the company was finally bought by Liberty Mutual at $68.52 a share, allowing Safeco Auto Insurance to continue offering personal lines including auto, motorcycle, RV and watercraft through independent agents with the backing of Liberty Mutual’s heftier bank account.
Insurance Products Available from Safeco Auto Insurance
Safeco have always offered competitive rates on a wide range of products, but one is more innovative than anything else to come out of the insurance market in some time. Teensurance is Safeco’s service aimed at finding a happy compromise between peace of mind for parents and freedom for teens.
By tracking cars via GPS and allowing parents some remote surveillance and control options such as remotely locking and unlocking doors and checking up on distance driven and driving habits in general, teens are free to drive on their own while parents are free to not worry about it too much.
This innovative concept has allowed Safeco Car Insurance to provide not just an insurance policy, but insurance in the truest sense of the word.
Discounts Available to Safeco Car Insurance Policyholders
Safeco Insurance offer a wide range of insurance policies to a wide range of people, from teens to the elderly, professionals to retirees, and it should come as no surprise that they offer a lot of generous discounts to go with those policies.
You can expect all of the standard discounts from Safeco Insurance that you would expect from any competitive insurance company, including discounts for safe drivers, for safe cars and for students with good grades.
Where Does Safeco Insurance Cover?
Safeco Car Insurance hold some $6.29 billion in revenue allowing them to cover all fifty states. However, they don’t offer full coverage in every state and in some may provide no actual private passenger auto insurance at all. Give your local insurance underwriter a call and see if they have a policy for you before setting anything in stone.
The company have been around for nearly a century and by partnering with Liberty Mutual seem to be planning to be around for at least a century more.
